| Welcome to MRC Junior Crew | |
| MRC Junior Crew is a developmental rowing program open to students from all schools in the entire Milwaukee Metro Area. Besides providing rowing instruction and regatta competition for youths new to rowing, the MRC Junior Crew program has also fostered youths who have gone on to become members of national championship teams and highly competitive college rowing programs, earned generous college rowing scholarships, and won a Gold Medal as a member of the U.S. Rowing Team at the Olympic Games in Athens. | |

MRC JUNIOR CREW PROGRAM GOALS AND STRATEGY
Goals To instill the Olympic ideals of sport, teamwork and fair competition; and to teach the skills of the Olympic sport of rowing. |
![]() |
| Strategy The MRC Junior Crew is open to all boys and girls who are willing to undertake rigorous physical training, willing to cooperate to perform all of the necessary operational tasks of competitive rowing; and willing to treat others whom they encounter with patience, generosity of spirit, and goodwill. The MRC Junior Crew undertakes to encourage each rower's development with training and supervision that encourages each individual's technical and physical progress and recognizes and reinforces each rower's dignity. |

| MRC JUNIOR CREW ROWERS "Junior" Rower You do not need to be an 11th grader to participate. "Junior": just refers to all high school-aged rowers. MRC Junior Crew rowers range from eighth grade to senior. |
| Typical Rower Rowers are generally taller than most. However, a shorter stature matched with strength and hard work can also be successful. |
| Coxswains A coxswain is a person (under 125 pounds) who steers the racing shell, executes racing strategy and helps coach the crew. As Pete Cippillone, Athens 2004 Olympic gold medalist once said: "Its like I'm the head herd dog and it's a big mean herd." |
| Squads MRC has four squads; varsity boys, varsity girls, novice boys and novice girls. Rowers are novices for one year after they start racing. |
| Being the Only Person from Your School Anyone can row for MRC even if they don't have others from their school to row with. Don't be shy! Come on out and meet a bunch of kids from all over the metro MRC area. |
| Cut Policies Each rower must be dedicated, hard working, cooperative and have a positive attitude. MRC does not cut rowers who demonstrate these qualities |
